Broken Tooth Repair Options

A broken tooth is one of the most common dental emergencies you can have. There are so many reasons to need an appointment with your dentist, and these ranks pretty close to the top.

A dentist will examine the tooth and provide you with all the options available to have it fixed. If you see a dentist right away, the chances are low that you will need to have the tooth extracted.

Repair options for a broken tooth

Your dentist will explain several options you have for fixing your tooth. Some are easily done in 1 visit, and others may need at least two visits to the office.

  • If the chip or crack is not too large, your dentist will suggest filling the tooth. This is done by forming a composite material and putting it over the damage and uses ultraviolet light to bond the material to the tooth.
  • A dental crown is when most of the tooth cannot be saved, but there is no need to extract it. Your dentist will form an impression of the tooth it will be covering. They will send the impression away to a lab to be made, and you will come back to the office once it arrives to have it fitted over your broken tooth. This will take at least two office visits.
  • Veneers are used on the front teeth. They go over the damaged tooth and are held on by ultraviolet light.
  • If your tooth is severely cracked, your dentist will recommend you have a root canal. This will save the tooth and protect against further infection entirely.

Always listen to your dentist and try to understand all your options and follow their advice. You want to be sure you are doing what is best for your health.

How can I strengthen my teeth?

You want to take care of your teeth to ensure they last for a very long time. Everyone should get in the habit of proper oral hygiene. You should always try to brush your teeth at least twice a day, along with flossing and using mouthwash.

If you want to be sure you are cleaning your teeth correctly, you can always ask your dental hygienist to give you instructions. They will be more than happy to help keep your teeth healthy.

Try to eat a healthy diet. You want to eat a variety of healthy fruits and vegetables and give your body plenty of nutrients and protein to keep your teeth strong.

Visit your dentist

Your dentist will agree the smartest thing do for your teeth is to brush, brush, brush. Your oral care routine is the most important factor in keeping your smile bright and happy. Make sure to also visit your dentist twice a year as recommended.

Following proper instructions and sticking to a regular oral care routine is the easiest way to ensure you don’t end up visiting the dentist for tooth repair.
